It’s All About the Peach – Papa Don’t Peach
Breadwinner is an amazing bakery that is based in Atlanta, Georgia. I first learned about them late one night when I was watching Road Tasted. The Deen Boys visited three places in Atlanta and by the luck of the cards I will be reviewing all three places for you. Breadwinner is the first of the three. On the show, Jamie and Bobby sampled two of the Breadwinner Breads. On their lineup was Papa Don’t Peach, which is what I’ve had a chance to sample, and Party at My Place Pumpkin, which is due out in October.
The bread arrived this afternoon and I was greeted with an adorably packaged product when I got it out of the shipping box. Each loaf of bread comes in its own cardboard loaf container and is wrapped in cellophane. The cellophane is wrapped with ribbon that is tied in a bow. It’s so cute. It’s like getting your own little present. Of course, you have no idea what you’re going to get when you unwrap your present to taste your bread.
Before I say too much, I will say three things before giving my complete review. First, I am not a huge bread fan. I like it, but I don’t love it. Next, I have never been to Atlanta. Finally, I’ve never had peach bread before. All of that being said, if all of Atlanta’s cuisine was as good as Breadwinner’s Papa Don’t Peach, I would move. In fact, I would move tomorrow.
It’s important to note that this bread is not your average bread. It’s definitely dessert-style bread. It’s so moist that it’s almost like cake. You could easily place this bread with some ice cream and you wouldn’t need anything else to be content.
For those of you that are skeptical about delivery you have no need to worry. This bread showed up so fresh (to Michigan, no less) that you would think that it was baked the same day. It literally melted in my mouth. The pieces of peach were plump and delicious, the glaze offered a sweet and enjoyable layer of flavor, and the sugar that is placed on top for that extra something was pronounced enough to add a slight texture change and just a tiny bit more sweetness.
I seriously couldn’t have asked for anything more. Of course, I am not always the biggest critic in my house. So, I handed some slices off to the family to see if this was all in my head or if this bread was seriously as good as I thought it was. My mother liked it. She took a bite, and despite not eating much these days her piece was gone when I returned back in the room a few minutes later. She’s very skeptical about the idea of receiving prepared food that has been shipped, but this bread won her over.
Next came the trial of appeasing my picky boyfriend, Dominick. If we were tasting Southern food I knew that he’d be all in for the tasting. However, he’s not a big dessert fan and likes bread less than I do. To make a long story short, I had to wrestle the fork from him. Breadwinner has made a believer out of him and he asked when he could get some more!
The final hard sell in my house is our son, Robert. Robert has a disease similar to Autism and the major downfall for him is that he’s an extremely picky eater. Getting him to try new foods can be like pulling teeth. Regardless, because I was doing a review he appeased my begging him to try it and took a bite. He chewed for a minute and looked up with a smile, “That’s really good Mom.” What more could I ask for? After all, that says a lot when it comes to him, because he doesn’t like anything.
Breadwinner goes all out with their products. Their breads include only the freshest, in-season ingredients so not all of their breads are available all year round. Breads like Shofar So Good Apple Honey and Frankly My Dear, I Don’t Give a Cran (Cranberry-Orange) are available in the fall and breads like Be Still My Beating Tart (Lemon-Blueberry) are available in summer. The current lineup is Papa Don’t Peach, Better Than a Bubble Bath Mocha Chocolate Chip, and Sweet Home Ala-Banana.
This bread is amazing. If you like bread or dessert you need to try this. To check it out and order your own you can head over to the Breadwinner Website. Just click on the breads and you can find out which breads are being made and you can order them right from that page.
Oh, and if you’re reading this Breadwinner…I will work for bread, specifically the Banana and Pumpkin, which I’m dying to try!
